The LEARS: Fools of Fortune Opens
ALL OUT ARTS Fresh Fruit Festival Monday July 13th
The LEARS: Fools of Fortune, a contemporary American version of Shakespeare’s KING LEAR, will open the 13th annual ALL OUT ARTS Fresh Fruit Festival on Monday July 13th at 7:30pm at The Wild Project 195 East 3rd St at Ave B, festival headquarters.
The LEARS: Fools of Fortune, by award-winning playwright Patrick Thomas McCarthy (ALL OUT ARTS Fresh Fruit Festival Outstanding Playwright 2012 & 2013), follows the fortunes of two families, the Lears & the Storrs, & the aftermath of Lear’s reading of his last will & testament at Thanksgiving dinner. The Alzheimers addled Edgar Reginald Lehman Lear has sold the family estate & will go to live with those that love him best. Will Lear's daughters, Anneril or Reagan take him in? Will disinherited gay son Cord, return as home health care nurse Cordelia Learson? And will the Storr family, Glen Storr Esq. and sons Edmond/Monty & Edgar/Ned find their way into the turbulent mix? Arm wrestling, cross dressing, sibling rivalries, blindings, & poisonings mix with loyalty, redemption and finally love in this tale of operatic family dysfunction.
The LEARS: Fools of Fortune is directed by Patrick Aran (PRIDE RIVER CROSSING, LYSISTRATA, The WONDER YEARS, A CANTICLE for LEIBOWITZ, 42nd St) with costume design & coordination by Susan Cook (BROADWAY Wardrobe: The VISIT, OF MICE & MEN, LUCKY GUY, SEMINAR, BRING IT ON, COAST of UTOPIA, ROMEO & JULIET) and media design by Katherine Hammond (THE DEATH of EDISON-NYC FRINGE, Warehouse of Theater, Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA) and stage management by Nate Siregar (AMDA).
